Myofascial Release and Visceral Manipulation

Myofascial release (MFR) and Visceral Manipulation(VM)

The fascia is the connective tissue which surrounds the body’s structures, it has been likened to the pith in an orange.  Myofascial release is a hands on technique which uses a gentle sustained force to the tissue with the intention of alleviating tension, restrictions and adhesions in the myofascia in order to restore balance and function to the body.  The viscera relates to the organs of the body such as the uterus, bladder etc. Visceral manipulation is also a gentle manual therapy technique which is directed at the organs and their associated fascia with the intention of improving the function of individual organs and the systems and structure the organs influence. For example bladder urgency or frequency aggravated by tension in the surrounding ligaments. Or pelvic pain associated with tension from scar tissue.

I use MFR and VM techniques frequently in the clinic as part of a holistic treatment plan which also includes individual exercises and lifestyle changes.

“Tanya’s class is excellent! I started the class because of pelvic girdle pain during my second pregnancy. I have found that the exercises really help with the pain but also the classes are so informative that I wish I had known about them during my first pregnancy. I have learnt so much and I would highly recommend!”
